Pros and Cons of a Galley Kitchen

Galley Kitchen: It is a kitchen layout with parallel counter-tops and a space to walk in between. Hence it’s also called a corridor or a walk-through kitchen. It has appliances and cabinets fixed on two walls opposite to each other.

Cons:
  • Can get crammed with more than two people
  • Natural light may get cut out with tall cabinets
  • Cannot accommodate an island in the middle if the kitchen is small or is in short of floor space
  • No room for dining. This limits interaction with family and guests.
  • Not suitable for large kitchens

*Work triangle: A term used by kitchen designers to determine the planning of the kitchen layouts. The triangle is formed by drawing an imaginary straight line from the centre of the sink, to the centre of the cook top, to the centre of the refrigerator, and finally back to the sink.
